Why is there a paywall?

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic we removed the paywall that restricted the number of stories that nonsubscribers could read on our website. Since then, we have hired additional editorial staffers and contributors, and published a rising volume of high-quality stories each day that we hope have informed and entertained you at no cost during a difficult year. We have also redesigned the site to enhance the experience of reading Texas Monthly stories digitally. There’s now a lot more to enjoy here, including in our 50-year archive of classic stories.

If you’re not already a subscriber, please subscribe to get access to the website, the print magazine, or both. In the meantime, you’ll have access to any two stories you’d like.

If you are a subscriber already, thank you! Please log in for full access to Texas Monthly. You’ll find easy log-in instructions here.

How many articles can I read before I have to subscribe?

You get two free articles per month. For full access to TexasMonthly.com, check out our subscription offers!

What is included in an annual digital subscription?

A digital subscription provides unlimited access to all of Texas Monthly’s web-only content, including archive issues, BBQ, food, and drink reviews, breaking news on the border, the Lege, and the other big storylines of the day, and much more. Your subscription also includes instant access to digital issues on our mobile app as well as the digital replica. The digital replica is the interactive digital edition of the monthly print magazine and includes audio of the articles. You can access your library on any device at any time, and you’ll receive an email each time a new issue becomes available.

The digital replica is only included in your subscription if you subscribed directly through Texas Monthly. Third-party subscriptions like Amazon, Google Play, and others are not included.
