How to connect a Meta Pixel or Facebook SDK to a catalog in Commerce Manager
The Meta Pixel is a piece of code that measures events that happen on your website, like when someone views an item or adds it to their cart. The Facebook SDK measures events that happen on your mobile app. If you connect your pixel or app SDK to your catalog, you can create Meta Advantage+ catalog ads (previously known as dynamic ads) that show relevant items from your catalog to people who've shown interest in them.
Note: These steps are to connect a pixel or app SDK to your catalog to run Advantage+ catalog ads. You can also connect a pixel to add items, which is different.
Before you begin
- Create a catalog and add your items.
- To connect a pixel: Install a pixel on your website and set up standard events required for Advantage+ catalog ads, such as ViewContent, AddToCart and Purchase. See the required pixel events for products, hotels, flights, destinations, vehicles and home listings. Remember that the content ID for each item in your pixel code must exactly match its ID in your catalog to indicate it's the same item.
- To connect an app SDK: Implement the app SDK on your mobile app with the required app events to run Advantage+ catalog ads.
How to connect the Meta Pixel or Facebook SDK to a catalog
To connect your pixel or app SDK to your catalog as an events data source:
- Go to Commerce Manager.
- Select your catalog.
- Open the Catalog tab and go to Events.
- Select Manage connections.
- Below Connection, turn on the toggle next to the pixel or app SDK you want to use and select Save. You can disconnect the pixel or app SDK from your catalog at any time by turning off the toggle next to it.
You've connected your pixel or app SDK to your catalog. It may take up to 24 hours to be ready. When it's ready, you can check your event to item match rate. You may also want to enable notifications if we detect an issue in your catalog with events received.
Note: If you don't see your pixel or SDK listed, check the following:
- The catalog and the pixel or app SDK must be owned by or shared to the same Business Manager. If not, one business can add the other business as a partner to share access to the catalog, pixel or app SDK.
- You must have the Manage pixel permission to connect a pixel to a catalog, or the Manage app permission to connect an app SDK. You must also have the Manage catalog permission for the catalog. Learn more about managing permissions for business assets.
