Now more than ever, creators, video publishers and media are using Facebook to build a meaningful community and business. We’re seeing the traditional notion of a creator evolve as comedians, artists, fitness instructors, athletes, small businesses and sports organizations use video and online events to connect with their audience. To better support our partners, we’re improving the tools that help creators earn money and manage their presence on Facebook.
Helping Creators and Video Publishers Monetize
From ads, to brand partnerships, to support from people, creators can earn money with a growing variety of products best suited to the content they share and the communities they’ve built.
  • Expanding access to fan support products: We’ve seen tremendous interest from people wanting to support their favorite creators, so we’re making fan subscriptions and Stars available to more creators:
    • Fan Subscriptions: People can support their favorite creators through a monthly recurring payment. Any Page in these markets that meets our eligibility criteria can now sign up here.
    • Stars: Fans can buy and send Stars to creators in the comments of a video. Stars are a great way to monetize live streams and get rewarded for building a loyal fan base. Creators can now set a Stars goal that appears as a permanent overlay in videos. And we’ve made it easier to manage Stars with automated thank you cards and other tools in Creator Studio. Creators in these markets can express interest and get started here.
  • Monetize more video content: In-stream ads continue to evolve on Facebook, enabling more types of videos to monetize with ads.
    • Ads in Short-form Video: Creators can now monetize 60-180 second videos with image and post-roll ads. While we continue to invest in long form content, shorter content can also build loyalty and intention so we’re testing these two non-interruptive ad formats in engaging short videos.
    • Ads for Live Video: We’ve developed ad formats for live video, including a new type of mid-roll ad that plays in the main video player during the live stream while the broadcast keeps playing in a smaller window. Select videos that previously were live are also now eligible for monetization.
    • New Ad Experiences: We’re working to increase overall payouts for video creators in Watch. For example, when people start watching videos in News Feed, we’re testing the option to continue watching in Watch after viewing a short ad.
  • New ways to earn money: To help creators bring their in-person events, experiences and services online and extend their reach beyond their physical location, we’re making it possible to create, promote, host and monetize live events on Facebook. We’ve started inviting Pages to our paid online events product and will have more to share in the coming weeks.
New Tools to Help Creators Manage Their Facebook Presence
In Creator Studio, we’re expanding our video insights to include Live and Stars performance, and we added a new Video Details Explorer dashboard, which includes Traffic Sources Insights for each video. We’ve also added hourly metrics for the first 48 hours after a video is published. And in the Creator Studio app, we recently added the ability to publish and schedule Facebook posts right from the app.
To help creators better understand the value of engaging in conversations and assess the effectiveness of their commenting, we're introducing Comment Insights, which show how commenting on posts may lead to increased engagement and impressions compared to similar posts where a creator did not join the conversation. When available, these insights will appear as a weekly notification.
Integration with Instagram
Many creators rely on multiple platforms to monetize their content. That's why we're investing in a suite of tools specific to Instagram, including the ability to log into Creator Studio using Instagram credentials and expanded access to Brand Collabs Manager to help creators easily manage their presences across our apps.
