Tom Hanks' famous line from "A League of their Own" in which he stated "there's no crying in baseball" is still iconic, but it's simply irrelevant on a day like today.

Thursday was supposed to mark Opening Day of the 2020 MLB season. Of course, the coronavirus outbreak has put things at a standstill, so the normally-celebrated holiday is on hold. We probably speak for most people when we say that adjusting to life without live sports has been brutal.

Most folks in that group surely understand that there's no place for tasteless jokes about the Opening Day that never was, right? For the most part, yes...except NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Schefter, no! Of all the fools we had pegged to crack wise at this unfortunate reality, you came nowhere close to gracing that list.

Twitter didn't disappoint here, as a flock of shocked fans rightfully roasted the prominent NFL news-breaker.

That assessment is spot on. Schefter unsettled so many delicate nerves of baseball fans here.

Some tweeters just called it like it is.

It may not be in Schefter's forte, but he has no choice but to accept defeat here.

That seems a little harsh, but we'll definitely settle for Schefter stubbing his toe on the edge of a dresser.

Wrong on so many levels. Read the room!

We expect better from a reporter of Schefter's billing. Hopefully he learned his lesson.
