Eye therapy for Toto, friend/comrade in CHILE
Many people throughout the world are shocked and saddened by the repressive tactics displayed by the Chilean police, who have blinded hundreds of people who are protesting economic and social injustice in that country by deliberately shooting them in the eyes with steel pellets. This has been amply reported by several well known news outlets throughout the world, and videos and interviews with those affected can be found all over the internet. This is just but one aspect of the continuous repression that the Chilean police have engaged in for countless years.
On November 12, 2019, Sergio Osvaldo Concha, better known as Toto, Guitarist of the antifascist Oi/Streetpunk band Curasbun, and participant for many years in the Chilean Punk and Skinhead scene, was one of the many victims of these horrendous acts. He was shot by the police with one of these pellets in the right eye at close range. The first medical report he received after the injury shows that he has retinal detachment, which is:
“an emergency when part of the eye (the retina) pulls away from supportive tissue. Tissue at the back of the eye pulls away from a layer of blood vessels that provide necessary oxygen and
nourishment.”
The Chilean comrades have provided what support they can, but the money is running out, and he needs to begin paying for the necessary treatment and therapy so he
doesn’t lose sight in the right eye, so my close comrade
Fernando (singer of Curasbun) has entrusted me with
the task of setting this up so that Toto can get funds that are necessary for this treatment. Compañero Toto is a self-employed welder and due to the nature of this serious eye injury is unable to work, and that compounded by the fact of expenses for therapy and medicines, have put him in a very difficult financial and emotional situation as well as the obvious health issue.
