FJP Community Network Grant Winner: Raleigh Convergence

28 de enero de 2020

The Funded Project:

Create a network of neighborhood contributors who will create community through the New Neighbor program that includes newsletters, events and social groups.

Grant Amount:

$19,524

In Their Own Words:

Studies prove that 62 people move into North Carolina’s Wake County per day. About 40 of those people are moving to the area that includes Raleigh and Cary. With the new neighbor project, the Raleigh Convergence will help new Raleighites (and Cary residents) learn more about the place they’re moving to, get connected to other neighbors and become engaged new residents.
This project would fund content created by community members in traditionally underreported neighborhoods: Southeast Raleigh, Knightdale and Cary, in addition to a general Raleigh audience. It would be delivered in a free email newsletter sequence. New neighbors would get access to community-specific Facebook groups (which we would create) where they could connect with others.
There would be quarterly events at neighborhood areas to meet up in person organized by the Raleigh Convergence and hosted with the neighborhood content creator. By growing the audience of the Raleigh Convergence, a bootstrapped local media company, we’re able to raise sponsorship rates of the newsletter and website, resulting in a more sustainable company. That will allow us to hire reporters. The neighborhood events could also be sponsored, which would be another revenue stream.
