FJP Community Network Grant Winner: Lexington Herald-Leader & CivicLex

28. Januar 2020

The Funded Project:

Uncover important, neighborhood-level issues to inform coverage through a partnership with CivicLex, a local nonprofit civic education organization, and facilitated workshops.

Grant Amount:

$18,250

In Their Own Words:

With this project, the Lexington Herald-Leader and our partner CivicLex, a local nonprofit civic education organization, want to learn what issues in Lexington-Fayette County, Kentucky aren't covered at the neighborhood level. To do this, we will co-host five neighborhood forums where we will serve a free, full meal and CivicLex will facilitate a workshop around the question, "What is one issue not being talked about in your neighborhood?" CivicLex has deep experience hosting neighborhood forums with robust turnout and engagement and will work with a host of professionally trained facilitators to ensure each meeting stays generative. After each meeting, we will explore issues raised at each forum with a team of journalists at the Herald-Leader/Kentucky.com. We will run at least one story from each neighborhood forum through the Herald-Leader and on Kentucky.com. We will also partner with CivicLex to add to their database of neighborhood-based issues impacting our city for future coverage.
