Supporting Journalists & Newsrooms During COVID-19

Facebook is grateful to all journalists and newsrooms working under unprecedented conditions to cover the coronavirus health crisis and keep the world informed. We’re investing $100 million to support the news industry during the COVID-19 pandemic in addition to our previous $300 million commitment to serve journalists around the world through diverse and inclusive programs and partnerships. United States

Results from the COVID-19 Local News Relief Fund Grant Program

In May 2020, we awarded $10.3 million to 144 local U.S. newsrooms as part of our COVID-19 Local News Relief Fund Grant Program. Funding enabled publishers to maintain or add jobs, expand or improve news coverage and grow audience and technological capabilities.

Asia

Results from The Splice Lights On Fund

In partnership with Splice Media, we’ve awarded 56 COVID-19 emergency relief grants to publishers across Asia. Learn more about our investments in the region here and the impact of the Lights On fund below.


Australia

The COVID-19 Australian News Relief Fund Program

In partnership with the Walkley Foundation, we’re announcing the recipients of the Facebook Journalism Project Relief Fund. The grants will support 17 Australian newsrooms in projects that build the publishers’ long-term financial sustainability.

Europe

The European Journalism COVID-19 Support Fund

In partnership with the European Journalism Centre, we’ve awarded grants to 162 news organisations and freelance journalists across 28 European countries. Learn more about the Support Fund here and meet the latest round of grant recipients below.


Latin America

The LATAM COVID-19 Support Fund

Forty-four news organizations from 12 countries will receive grants of between $10,000 and $40,000. Eighteen of them were also selected to participate in the Reader Revenue Accelerator, a program designed to foster innovation in the newsrooms.

Middle East and North Africa

ICFJ & FJP Training and Reporting Grants Program

We’ve partnered with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) on a training program that allows journalists across the Middle East and North Africa to produce high-quality stories that shine a light on life in refugee camps during the coronavirus pandemic. ICFJ will also award 17 grants to participating journalists.

The South Africa COVID-19 Local News Relief Fund
