The Facebook Accelerator Program

Mission

An Accelerator is a three-month program aimed at addressing specific business challenges facing the news industry. Accelerator programs bring news organizations together to innovate; learn from one another; and collaboratively develop strategies to improve their business both on and off Facebook. Each Accelerator program has three key objectives:

1Facilitate Collaboration Between Publishers

The Accelerator workshops bring like-minded news organizations and journalists together in one place to work together intensively in small groups. Relationships are formed and best practices are developed on how to address common problems such as building a digital subscriptions business, expanding digital video storytelling, and more.

2Scale Shared Lessons

Through the sessions, the Accelerator participants share ideas and experiences, test theories and experiment new ones. With each new Accelerator, the collective learnings grow exponentially creating a warehouse of tactics, strategies and best practices to be shared.

3Build Sustainability

The focus of all Accelerators is to build sustainability across both a publisher's business and storytelling capabilities. Each session helps publishers identify ways to improve their businesses, whether it's identifying key metrics or finding practical solutions to existing gaps.

Meet the 20 Participating US Newsrooms

After receiving more than 300 applications from around the country, 20 news organizations that are owned or led by people of color will be participating in the 6-month training and mentorship program.
