There are two SIM options for connecting your iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular to a data plan: a physical SIM card or eSIM technology.*** (Note: iPad with Wi-Fi models cannot connect to cellular networks.)
Physical SIM card: All Wi-Fi + Cellular models have a physical nano-SIM tray that will hold a carrier nano-SIM card (also called 4FF SIM card). Your iPad may have a carrier SIM card already installed if you purchased it from a carrier. If not, you can contact your carrier to obtain an appropriate card for your iPad. eSIM technology: Newer Wi-Fi + Cellular models include built-in eSIM technology that essentially acts as a digital SIM card. There are a few ways to activate an eSIM on your iPad, including downloading it right on the iPad itself, scanning a QR code, or using an app from a carrier. With eSIM, you can choose cellular data plans from select carriers in the U.S. and in more than 180 countries and regions around the world. Wi-Fi + Cellular models with embedded eSIM technology include: iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation or later), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation or later), iPad Air (3rd and 4th generation), iPad (7th generation or later), and iPad mini (5th and 6th generation).
Wi-Fi + Cellular models with a physical Apple SIM card include: iPad Pro 12.9-inch (1st generation), iPad Air 2, iPad (5th and 6th generation), and iPad mini 3 and iPad mini 4. Wi-Fi + Cellular models with an embedded Apple SIM include: iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation), iPad Pro 10.5-inch, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad mini (5th generation), and iPad Air (3rd generation).

Apple Trade In makes it easy to get credit toward the purchase of your next iPad. Simply answer a few questions about your device. If your iPad is engraved, it may be eligible for trade-in. Based on what you tell us, we’ll provide an estimated trade-in value. If you pay monthly, we’ll apply the value as an instant credit to lower the monthly payments of your new iPad. If you pay in full, we’ll credit your payment method after we receive your trade-in. If it’s not eligible for credit, you can recycle it for free.
Once you accept the estimated trade-in value quote, we'll ship you a free trade-in kit. When we receive your trade-in, we'll verify its condition, and if everything checks out, your trade-in will be complete. If your device doesn’t match the condition you described, you’ll receive an email with next steps. If you paid in full and the value of your device was more than the cost of your new iPad, you’ll receive an Apple Gift Card by email with the remaining amount.
The online trade-in process generally takes 2–3 weeks.
You can also trade in your device at an Apple Store at the point of purchase, however the trade-in value in the store may be different from the estimated trade-in value you received online.

AT&T, T-Mobile/Sprint and Verizon are the national wireless carriers in the United States who offer 5G service. For 5G service, you need to activate your iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular with one of these carriers. Some carriers may also require a 5G service plan or a new SIM. Contact your carrier for more information.
Your new iPad comes with one year of hardware repair coverage and up to 90 days of technical support. AppleCare+ extends your iPad, Apple Pencil, and Apple-branded iPad keyboard coverage and includes up to two incidents of accidental damage protection every 12 months. Each incident is subject to a service fee of $49 for iPad and $29 for Apple Pencil or Apple-branded iPad keyboard, plus applicable tax. In addition, you’ll get 24/7 priority access to Apple experts by chat or phone.

Yes. If you change your mind and no longer wish to keep your iPad, you have the option to return it to us, even if it is engraved. The returned iPad must be in good condition and in the original packaging, which contains all accessories, manuals, and instructions. Returns are subject to Apple's Sales and Refunds Policy.
