Update: October 1, 2020
Applications are now closed for the Sustainability Accelerator. Visit this website and sign-up to our newsletter for regular updates.

We welcome news organizations who are owned or led by Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian and/or other communities of color to apply to join the Facebook Journalism Project’s Sustainability Accelerator. Eligible newsrooms can apply until 9/30/2020 at 11:59 PM ET. Subject to Terms and Conditions.
The Accelerator, Facebook’s premier journalism sustainability training program, involves intensive training in essentials to building a sustainable media business, one-to-one coaching with an industry expert and grant support to implement new strategies. (It is not focused on Facebook tools or services.)
This Accelerator will enhance the long-term growth and sustainability of news organizations that are owned or led by Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian and other people of color. Strengthening these newsrooms is an essential part of creating a more just and equitable media ecosystem and a more just and equitable society.

The Accelerator will run from mid-October through early 2021, followed by a six-month period to execute on specific grant-funded initiatives. Grants are distributed by the International Center for Journalists.
News organizations will be asked to commit a team of at least two people, including the organization’s top executive/leader/director, for up to five hours (including live Zoom-based sessions, recorded videos, small-group discussion, and coaching calls) per week during that time.
You will be required to submit a report of your performance using your grant at the end of the program.
We will evaluate your application based on your impact on the community you serve, how prepared you are to pursue your business’s biggest opportunities, and your willingness to commit to the program’s requirements.
Accelerator participants will join an active community of news organizations who remain allies for one another long after the conclusion of the formal program.
Eligibility criteria:
  • You are a news organization of any type (digital, print, broadcast, etc.) in the United States.
  • The majority of your ownership and/or leadership is Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian or other people of color.
